Happy Spring Equinox dear ones. We are delighted to welcome guest writer Vic Zen to our Sisters of the Moon blog today. Here she is sharing with us an article she has written about the Equinox. We hope you enjoy xx Equinox - Hanging in the Balance"The dance between darkness and light will always remain - the stars and the moon will always need the darkness to be seen, the darkness will just not be worth having without the moon and the stars." - C. JoyBell.C A subject which fascinates me is the state of delicate balance in our universe. It is the stuff of many a dramatic story; the struggle between opposing forces, the war between good and evil, the personal choice between the light and the darkside. What is certain, is that we cannot have one without the other; there can be no light without the dark, no summer without winter and no moon or star shine without the backdrop of the pitch black night. This is illustrated beautifully and maybe most eloquently in the ancient Chinese concept of yin and yang, which symbolises the importance of the balance between seemingly contradictory forces and therefore points to the interconnectedness and complementary nature of all things. We are reminded of this balance twice during the cycle of the year and this balance point is known as Equinox. Equinox literally means 'equal night' in Latin and is so named because it is the time in the year when there is almost equal hours of darkness and daylight throughout the world. At this time, the centre of the sun comes to be positioned directly above the Equator, causing this balance between light and dark in all parts of our planet. On March 20th, the Northern Hemisphere will celebrate Spring Equinox and will tilt towards towards the sun as winter transitions into summer, with longer hours of daylight and warmer weather ahead. The Southern Hemisphere will experience the opposite and pass from summer into winter, marking the arrival of true Autumn. Traditionally we would celebrate the Spring Equinox and the start of the astrological new year by planting seeds. It is tempting, especially living in England, where we have a cold and dark winter that seems to last forever, to want to rush ahead and to literally 'spring' or 'march' into action as soon as official Spring time appears on the meteorological calendar with arrival of the month of March. However, the beginning of March is actually the end of the astrological year with the sun passing into the watery and mystical realm of Pisces. Pisces is not synonymous with action, instead it is a dreamy and emotional sign where the ego - the seat of our will - can become diminished and compromised. This year especially, the whole month of March, with its new moon in Pisces, Sun in Pisces and Mercury retrograding in Pisces has been a good time for just making ourselves comfortable, keeping up the self-care, reflecting on how far we have come in the last twelve months and exploring our creativity without too much pressure or urgency. Just as you would not rush into winter without first harvesting what you have grown during the summer, so too we should not rush into the frenzied action of summer without first reflecting upon what we have learned from our inner work over the winter months. Instead then, we can look to this time and to the energy of the Equinox to get a greater understanding of the importance of the balance between all things. This particular Equinox of March 2019 will be an especially powerful time to do this as the moon will become full in the sign of Libra during the very early hours of the 21st of March. Libra is the classic symbol of balance and fairness, a calm and focused sign which seeks symmetry and harmony in all aspects. Libra helps us to appreciate the importance of the liminal state and the power that comes from the place inbetween. The strong Libran energy of this supermoon will take us into the first true day of Spring in a poised manner. It is this balanced energy that will provide us with a theme for the rest of this year and is indeed a good basis for reflection in our lives in general. Right now on this planet, we are being called to use our Libran powers of discrimination to decide what is right and wrong for us and weigh up our values on a personal and global level. Our very existence seems to be hanging in the balance! The good news though is that just as we are reminded by the yin and yang symbol, we can bring these opposing forces into synthesis, wielding these energies to use them for the realisation and manifestation of our own divine plan. Just as matter must be balanced by spirit, so too must spirit be celebrated in matter; we do not have to sacrifice the spiritual for the material or give up the material to live a spiritual life. Perhaps most importantly, we must remember to be balanced in our view of our own selves and not be too hard or too critical of ourselves! We can use this time to meditate upon the inner and the outer. We can reflect without judgement on the balance of the lower mind and the higher self, the needs of the human animal and those of the human spirit. We can look to the past and to the future to create balance and to celebrate or change what is manifest in our present. We can remember that just as the Equinox marks the balance point between the seasons, the Summer ahead will eventually yield to winter and the Northern and Southern Hemispheres will swap over once more in a state of perfect balance and we will be reminded that there is no light without the dark. And so the cycle continues!

Welcome dear ones, to our first ever blog post and happy new moon in Pisces. This is the last new moon of the astrological year, we begin a new cycle next month with the new moon in Aries and this is also when we are launching our membership site. Pisces is what we call a mutable sign in that it belongs to two seasons, the tail end of winter and the start of Spring. We can finally say farewell to the cold and dark of the winter time and look ahead to the light and new growth of spring. This new moon coincides with Mercury going retrograde so it's really a time for us to slow down and take stock before spring officially arrives. Pisces is a deeply emotional and intuitive water sign and calls for us to calve out time to check in with our self, and connect to our inner guidance. How well are we listening to our inner wisdom? How much time is there in our life at the moment for silence and stillness? Pisces is all about feeling things out, logic and leading with the mind won't work as well during this time. Now is the time to tune in to the divine feminine qualities of feeling all that there is to feel without judgement or attachment. Dive deep into the waters of your emotions and take time to reflect on all that has happened since last spring. What needs to be released, what is no longer serving you, what could be forgiven? What blessings are you grateful for and what lessons have you learned? Pisces have this otherworldly quality to them, they are often referred to as the mystic of the zodiac, the dreamers and the artists. They have one foot in this world and one foot in the other. This is beautifully represented by the mermaid (often used as an archetype of Pisces) a creature that exists in two worlds simultaneously, in the case of Pisces, this world and then the spiritual world. Likening the ocean to the vastness of the subconscious mind. The constellation for Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions, one fish representing the conscious and the other the unconscious. New Moon in Pisces is a wonderful time to check in with our spiritual life, have we let our self get bogged down in the ordinaryness of day to day land life? How could we activate our mermaid tale and take a dive in to the waters of the spiritual world and re-awaken our connection with the divine? This month would be an ideal time to get back in to meditation, oracle cards, receiving energetic healing such as reiki or crystal therapy and spending lots of quiet time journaling and listening to your inner truth. Pisces' ruling planets are Neptune and Jupiter. Neptune represents hopes and dreams, emotions and ideas, so use the leftover quiet of winter to allow yourself time to dream. What are your hopes and dreams for the coming year? What would you like to grow in your life this spring? Dream from the heart and remember to connect to the water element of this sign, allowing your dreams to arise within you without judgement or the desire to think logistically...go with the flow! Jupiter is the planet of expansion and good fortune so tuning in to these qualities whilst exploring your dreams and the possibilities can be limitless. Key words associated with Pisces: sensitive, mystical, emotional, dreamy, spiritual, feeling, intuitive, caring, loving, artistic, other-wordly, ethereal. Tuning in to water element over the next few weeks will also help us navigate the mercury retrograde. We can expect delays, technology mishaps and communication issues over the next couple of weeks so a perfect time to learn how to go with the flow, calling upon the mind of patience acceptance. A helpful mantra during this time: 'It is what it is' or 'OM NAMO NARAYANI' which means I surrender to the divine. New moon blessings to you all, Chelle x |
