Happy Beltane dearest sisters. It's one of our favourite times of the year so we're going to share with you some craft ideas and rituals to welcome in this ancient celtic festival. Beltane is celebrated on the eve of the 30th of April over into the following day, May 1st (May Day). It's one of the four fire festivals of the wheel of the year and is a celebration of spring at its fullest and also the arrival of summer...hurrah! It's a time to celebrate the abundance of mother nature that is so apparent at this time of year and re-establish our connection to Gaia as we enter into these lighter, warmer days. Beltane is also a fertility festival and a time to celebrate love, it was traditionally a time of year for handfastings. In terms of working with goals, ideas and dreams, now is the time to fertilise your intentions and joyfully go about bringing your dreams to fruition. Beltane combined with the upcoming new moon in Taurus is a time to focus on abundance and working on blockages we might have in relation to our self worth. It's also a time of joy and merriment, cue dancing barefoot outside around a May pole and shaking off the last of the winter blues. Goddesses of BeltaneGoddesses associated with Beltane are Flora - the Roman goddess of flowers, Brighid - the goddess of fire, Freya - the goddess of fertility, Aphrodite - the goddess of love. Flowers, flowers and more flowersTo celebrate nature's abundance, bring flowers in to your life and your home. Craft yourself and your friends a flower crown. Make your own floral water. Spend time outside, barefoot, and be present to the beauty of all the flowers around you. Connect with the faeries :) ROSE WATER MIST RECIPE Gather fresh rose petals and leave them in a bowl of water overnight along with a piece of rose quartz. The next day sieve out the water and place the petals to dry (you can use these later to create dried flower petals for sprinkling on your altar or to go in bath salts). Pour your floral water into a dark glass spray bottle and fill 2 thirds of the bottle. The remaining third, pour in organic alcohol or facial toner (I use witch hazel) if you don't have alcohol and then add a few drops of Geranium, Rose and Jasmine essential oils and shake well. Hold your bottle in the palm of your hands and imbue your floral mist with your Beltane intentions. Label with the date, and store in a cool, dark place. Whenever you need to connect with the abundance of Spring, mother earth and your beltane wishes, mist yourself with your floral spray :) Fire RitualFire is such a purifying force and as we are celebrating the shift in to the lighter half of the year now is a good time to leave behind all that no longer serves us, in particular, ways of thinking that prevent you from having an abundance mindset. Using a bonfire or a candle depending on what you have access to (and please be safe), write down a list of self limiting beliefs or scarcity mindset habits that you can identify within yourself. Ask yourself - do you find yourself often worrying about having enough? Do you get jealous/competitive with others? Are you generous of spirit and with your resources? These questions should help you to identify whether you're operating from a place of fear and lack. When you've created your list, burn it and with this act of burning, release all your old fears, old stories and self limiting beliefs. PlantMay is a key month for planting in your garden, plant seeds of sweet peas, marigold, cosmos, sunflowers and lavender. Make this in to a ritual by imagining that you're planting your intentions for the coming months of summer. As they grow, they will serve as a reminder of your intentions :) "With that I give you food for thought: embody Beltane by embracing nature-earth-life and vocalizing your love for those in your life. Share hugs and the gift of your smile. Enjoy the building energy of Taurus and the abundant harvests that awaits us!" - Aromatic Studies We hope you've enjoyed our blog post, Beltane blessings to you all xx
